The gentle lotus has been the most prominent symbol associated with Baramdaah ever since our conception. Every once in a while, we look towards the flower for inspiration and find an unexplored facet that pulls us in, and this time around, we look at the Lotus Silk.

One of the rarest fabrics in the world, Lotus Silk is produced only in small scales by a handful of skilled artisans across Southeast Asian countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, and more recently, Vietnam.

Being a labour- and skill-intensive undertaking makes lotus silk rare and immensely valuable. From carefully selecting each stem to weaving the fabric by hand, the entire process requires an eye for detail that few craftspeople possess and hone.

The process begins with careful selection of lotus stems, typically harvested early in the morning when the stems are fresh and full of sap. Once the stems are harvested, artisans cut them to reveal fine, sticky fibers inside. These fibers are then pulled out by hand and twisted together to form a continuous thread. The spun fibers are then woven on traditional handlooms to create lotus silk fabric. The weaving process is delicate, as the fibers are extremely fine and require careful handling. he final product is a soft, lightweight, and lustrous fabric that is highly prized for its unique texture and sheen.

Lotus silk is more than just a fabric; it is a testament to the harmony between nature and human craftsmanship. As we continue to explore and appreciate the treasures of our natural world, lotus silk will undoubtedly remain a symbol of elegance, tradition, and sustainability in the textile industry.

We were overjoyed as @nisha1969 and @nishi.agarwaal were felicitated with an award at the Nari Shakti Samman award ceremony as directors of Baramdaah.
